JOB SUMMARY 

S&C Electric Company, an ESOP-owned Chicago-based enterprise is aggressively expanding its worldwide sales, sourcing, and operations and seeks a technical professional with experience in Supplier Quality Engineering and problem-solving. This individual will be responsible for all supplier quality activities for a key product line. 

This position reports to the Manager – Supplier Quality 

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Work with suppliers to improve quality performance, implement process controls and reduce the cost of poor quality for suppliers and S&C.   

  • Utilize Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools for new product, revisions, and/or supplier changes.  

  • Utilize various Continuous Improvement and Lean methodologies to develop key suppliers, product lines, and manage the project schedules of these activities.  

  • Maintain a frequent rotating on-site presence at supplier locations focusing on a key product line. 

  • Verify suppliers are continuously adhering to their Control Plan and standard operating procedures. 

  • Problem-solve quality issues with the supplier, Sourcing, Product Engineering, and Production Operations staff to assure that Supplier Corrective Action Plans are developed and executed. 

  • Provide input into Supplier Selection processes so that suppliers are awarded based on Total Cost of Ownership models rather than chosen solely for commercial reasons.  

  • Perform supplier evaluations as part of cross-functional teams.  

This position will involve frequent and extensive travel and at times the travel may be on short notice.  Willing and able to travel 25% domestically and possibly internationally. 

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following: 

  • BS in an engineering or technical discipline.   

  • Demonstrated skill in effective problem-solving and communication across all levels of any organization related to concepts of supplier quality, production and process controls. 

  • Experience with various manufacturing technologies and methods. 

  • Knowledge and experience with quality management system tools, APQP, and continuous improvement tools from Lean and Six Sigma Management Systems. 

  • Strong collaboration, influencing, negotiation & conflict resolution skills. 

  • Proficient in the use of inspection tools & equipment. 

  • Excellent skills in data analysis and data management using Excel, Access, or other PC platform software. 

  • Willing and able to travel 25% domestically and possibly internationally. 

Relevant Experience Required: Minimum of 8 years experience in supplier quality or product/process engineering.   

MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Standing: May be frequent standing when visiting supplier locations or on production floor 

  • Environment: Work performed in a regular office environment but may also include time spent on a manufacturing floor
